California Goodbyes!
We have been grateful to see so many people on our final California trip. Of course, we only remembered to get pictures with a few. It has been a joy and a sorrow to see everyone and have to say ‘goodbye’. OK, everybody look at the camera! Mimi and Elias chillin’ in the pool. Papa and Kaden. Gorgeous view in Kevin’s backyard, and the scenery behind Stacey is pretty too! Kaden’s Cheese Face. Stacey and I fell in love during Dr. Halstead’s Greek class. We are very grateful for this man! Stacey, Meredith Ebner and lots of kids! Dave and…
Yayyy I’m Done!!!!
Whelp, today I finished all of the required classwork for the Certificate of Applied Linguistics at GIAL! This means I have all of the training I need for us to move to Cameroon! We have come so far! Thank you so much for praying for me as I went through the program. I was often studying into the early morning and waking up early for class. It was exhausting and exciting and I could not have done it without your prayers and God’s grace. But we are not done yet. We will have 5 weeks off and then Stacey will…
The Sudden Death of a Friend and Colleague, Noah Huss
It is strange to even write this blog entry because we know that Noah will not be reading it. He always read our blog and encouraged us in what we had written. Who would have guessed there would be a post dedicated to him? Today Dave and I received an email from World Team saying that Noah Huss, one of World Team’s mobilizers, was in a car accident yesterday and died due to his injuries. We have been crying off and on ever since. When we first heard this news we simply could not believe it. Dave had just emailed…
In Memory of Shawn Kelley: Student, Friend, Colleague
Guest Post by Chuck Sutton (World Team) As a Student Words come easy when thinking about Shawn. I was his academic advisor at Philadelphia Biblical University in the late 1990s. I soon learned that behind his (at times) awkwardness lay a gem of a person. He had a serious learning disability. But he slugged it out for four years, demonstrating a level of tenacity that spoke to his persevering character. He had to work twice as hard as most students. He did not complain or play the victim. He set his mind to the task and completed his degree in…
25 Miles From Heaven: Tornadoes, Death and the Will of God
My dad had it right when he said that Dave and I were 25 miles away from Heaven this weekend. He said this after I told him that we were 25 miles away from Joplin, Missouri this past Sunday night. We were going to do a presentation about our ministry in Cameroon but when we arrived at the church in Pierce City, there was a fire truck and the driver advised us to take cover right away because a tornado was coming. So instead of doing our presentation, we spent the evening huddled under a stair-case with people from the…
