FAQ: Why Translate the Bible for Oral Cultures?

There are many “orality movements” in missions circle today which emphasize the oral transmission of Bible stories. We think all of that is great, but not to the exclusion of a translated copy of the Word of God. We believe that it is absolutely imperative that every language group should have the entire Bible in their own language for the following reasons:1. God Chose to Write his Message Down  God could have chosen any medium of communicating his message to the world but, even knowing oral societies exist, he still chose to write his message down. Therefore, Bible Translation honors…

FAQ: Why Not Just Teach the People English?

We have asked this question ourselves! However, we have concluded that it would be best to translate the Bible into the language of the people because: 1. This Method of Transmitting the Bible has Failed in the Past When we visited Cameroon a number of years ago, we learned that missionaries arrived decades ago and evangelized much of Cameroon. However, they only translated the Bible into three of the 270+ languages with the hopes that the remainder of the languages would learn these three languages. In reality they did not. Thus the people groups that have the Bible have healthier…

“Missionary Kid” Shares her Experience of Growing up in Cameroon

World Team printed this article about a missionary kid who grew up among the Baka people in Cameroon, Africa. We pray that her story will encourage your faith as it has encouraged ours… What God Has Done for Me – Reflections on My Journey What has God done for me? My answer starts with, “He saved my life, many times physically and once forever spiritually.” But what God has done for me exceeds granting redemption and safety on murderous roads. Both of those are extremely important, but God’s work includes using my ‘yesterdays’ to make my ‘today.’ I am a…

Thank you to the Men who Died to Bring us the Bible in English

It was through studying the many men who died in their commitment to translate the Bible into English that led us to go into Bible translation ourselves. We are debtors to men like Tyndale who made it his goal to translate Bible from Greek and Hebrew into English…a commitment which cost him his life. FAQ: Why Translate the Bible for a People who have Already Heard the Gospel?

1. The Great Commission is not Fulfilled at Conversion, but at Obedience to all Christ’s Commands. “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” – Matthew 28:19-20 According to the above passage, the Great Commission is fulfilled not at evangelism, but instead when people learn to observe all that Christ has commanded. Specifically, he tells us to:1) Go into all…

FAQ: How Could you Take your Children onto the Mission Field?

One of the most commonly asked questions we receive is how we could subject our children to the dangers of the mission field such as malaria, lack of access to good medical care, and so on. Here are some of our responses to these questions: 1. We Unashamedly Love Jesus more than our Children. Jesus said, “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple” (Luke 14:26). At first glance, this is a shocking verse. One…

FAQ: Why would you leave pro-life ministry to go onto the mission field? Isn’t God using you here?

It is such a tragedy that our laws of our country do not protect the lives unborn children and therefore the responsibility to protect the weak among us rests upon Christians. This systematic killing of children through abortion has regularly brought tears to my eyes for the past several years. Nevertheless, there are Christians in America who are faithfully defending the unborn. The reason there are Christians in America is because men put their lives on the line in order to translate the Bible into English. If we did not have the Bible then we would not be Christians, and…
