Should I Go Into Missions?
“Should I go into Missions?” “Does God expect me to seriously consider foreign missions as a career choice?” “Am I obligated to go into missions?” “Should I feel guilty for staying in the States?” “If I don’t know what to do with my life, should I just go into missions since I know it’s a good thing to do?” Since we have started raising support for missions, we have had many people seek us out for advice on if they should or should not go into missions. And although our initial response is that we want everyone to go into…
The Story Behind the Kimyal Video: God Uses Polio Survivor to Translate his Word
His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor his delight in the legs of a man; the LORD delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love. – Psalm 147:10-11 Many of you are familiar with the Kimyal video that depicts the Kimyal people of Papua rejoicing to receive the New Testament in their language for the first time. But behind this scene of rejoicing was decades of hard labor among the Kimyal peoples. The pastor you saw praying in the video (Siud) was the son of a witch-doctor, one of the…
25 Miles From Heaven: Tornadoes, Death and the Will of God
My dad had it right when he said that Dave and I were 25 miles away from Heaven this weekend. He said this after I told him that we were 25 miles away from Joplin, Missouri this past Sunday night. We were going to do a presentation about our ministry in Cameroon but when we arrived at the church in Pierce City, there was a fire truck and the driver advised us to take cover right away because a tornado was coming. So instead of doing our presentation, we spent the evening huddled under a stair-case with people from the…
I Cannot Save Even One Soul
“Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.” Psalm 127:1 This blog is dedicated to journaling our journey to the mission field and the closer we get the more excited we are. We have shared with many people and churches our passion for spreading the Gospel and for translating the Word of God. And yet, the closer we seem to get to the mission field, the more the Lord seems to be humbling me through my children (one in particular). And I…
FAQ: Why Won’t You Work?
Sub-Saharan Africa is argued to be the poorest region in the world which means that there are few to no jobs available. Since we will be living in a rural village, our options would be: to farm, weave baskets, or other agricultural type work. Generally speaking these types of jobs require long hours of back-breaking work. Without working another job, Bible translation generally takes 20-30 years, let alone if we were farming the land as well. Therefore, since our goal is to serve the people of Cameroon, it best serves them for us to not seek employment in Cameroon but…

We’re Picking up the Kiddos from Ethiopia in Two Weeks!
Another answer to prayer! The US Embassy has cleared all of our paperwork and given us the green light to come pick up our kids the week of March 14th. So myself (Stacey) and a friend (Karen) will fly out March 11th and are planning to return March 17th. We’ve recently found out that our kids are only 9 days apart (Elias DOB 7/11/10 and Zoey DOB 7/20/10). We thought that was a fun fact being that their are very different in size. We would love your prayers during this transition. Namely that our hearts would selflessly love our children…
FAQ: Why Translate the Bible for Oral Cultures?
There are many “orality movements” in missions circle today which emphasize the oral transmission of Bible stories. We think all of that is great, but not to the exclusion of a translated copy of the Word of God. We believe that it is absolutely imperative that every language group should have the entire Bible in their own language for the following reasons:1. God Chose to Write his Message Down God could have chosen any medium of communicating his message to the world but, even knowing oral societies exist, he still chose to write his message down. Therefore, Bible Translation honors…
FAQ: Why Not Just Teach the People English?
We have asked this question ourselves! However, we have concluded that it would be best to translate the Bible into the language of the people because: 1. This Method of Transmitting the Bible has Failed in the Past When we visited Cameroon a number of years ago, we learned that missionaries arrived decades ago and evangelized much of Cameroon. However, they only translated the Bible into three of the 270+ languages with the hopes that the remainder of the languages would learn these three languages. In reality they did not. Thus the people groups that have the Bible have healthier…
“Missionary Kid” Shares her Experience of Growing up in Cameroon
World Team printed this article about a missionary kid who grew up among the Baka people in Cameroon, Africa. We pray that her story will encourage your faith as it has encouraged ours… What God Has Done for Me – Reflections on My Journey What has God done for me? My answer starts with, “He saved my life, many times physically and once forever spiritually.” But what God has done for me exceeds granting redemption and safety on murderous roads. Both of those are extremely important, but God’s work includes using my ‘yesterdays’ to make my ‘today.’ I am a…
