Day of Prayer #1: Pray for Wisdom Regarding Which People Group to Translate For

by Stacey

Spending the last year in a new culture has really humbled us. We now know that we enter a new culture as “children” as we have to learn how to speak, how to read the street signs, how to cook, and so on. It truly shows the power of God that he uses clueless people from across the globe to bring about his Kingdom among unreached people groups. Thus, as we enter another new culture, we know that we are totally dependent on the Lord to save people through two tired, sinful, culturally awkward people like us. All that to say, join us in prayer the next 14 days that the Lord’s power might be displayed in Cameroon even through people like us.

Day 1

“For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding”
Proverbs 2:6

We are planning to translate for a particular people group, and yet if there is a more linguistically strategic language group we could translate for, we are open to translating for that one.*

  • Please pray that all the “facts” of various languages would be available to us so that we could make a good decision.
  • Pray that we would be able to find language groups that are similar enough that we could even do multiple translations.
  • Pray that the Lord would lead us to a people group that is incredibly motivated to join us in the work of translation.
  • Pray that the Lord would give us wisdom as to who to translate for and even where to live among that people group.

*An example of a linguistically strategic language would be one that is understandable to other language groups. If we translated for one such language, we could more easily do an adaptation of our original Bible translation to serve other similar dialects.  This would be an ideal scenario because, in the end, more people groups would have access to the Bible.
